Pellet

What is pellet ?

Pellet is the name given to the material which is formed by drying all kinds of industrial and agricultural wastes and compressing them under high pressure after grinding. Raw material used in pellet production are; wood, kindling, sawdust, chip, crust, branches and similar forest wastes, wood chips, wedges and other materials.

Production and Sales in Our Factory

Considering, the sawdust as a result of the production of 9000 doors per month and hundreds of solid panel productions each month, Abdülkerim Kahraman, the founder of our company, has begun its research to turn the chips into pellet in 2012 and trial production started in a few months. Over time, the maximum yield was reached in pellet production. As of 2017, 200 sacks of pellets are produced daily.

● It is the cheapest among other fossil fuels.
● It can be burnt as controlled as natural gas. Places where they can be burned; hazelnut ovens, systems of hazelnut shell ovens, pellet ovens, pellet boilers.
●One tonne pellet can replaces 3.5 tonnes of wood at one time.
● The density is between 1000 kg / m3 – 1100 kg / m3.
● When 1 ton pellet is burnt, it leaves 10 kg ash.
● Humidity is between 7% and 12%.
● It does not pollute the chimneys.
● It should be stored in 25 kg sacks which are moisture proof.
● It is easy to transport.
● It is important for the protection of the environment due to the low degree of emission gases.
● It is a clean fuel.
● It is the fuel of the future.

♦ Cheaper (than all fuel types)
♦ No waste
♦ Can be burnt automatically (as controlled as natural gas)
♦ As safe as all other fuels and higher calorific value.

Problems in nutshell which is used as an alternative to pellet:

► The price of nutshell is completely dependent on yield, ie it is seasonal. The possibility of continuous supply is low.
► The hazelnut shell is made of organic material and contains mice and microorganisms.
► It may cause an unpleasant odor and greasing.
► Storage is difficult. Even if it is stored in the form of nuts, it is more likely to crumble when it is placed one on the top of the other, and the combustion efficiency falls.

If we think the same conditions for the pellet:

► The price does not fluctuate in certain seasons as it is found in every season.
► It does not produce mice and microorganisms due to its structure.
► The pellet is odorless, not greasy and does not contaminate the environment when it is burned.
► It is sold in 25 kg sacks. Since there is no possibility of crumbling, the piles can be placed on top of each other, which saves storage space.

A pellet stove has typically the following parts:

• A fuel reservoir
• A pod system
• Three blowing fans (for burning, spreading and exhausting)
• A combustion chamber (reflector panels, combustion chamber, ash collecting system)
• A vacuum pump
• A main control box / board (or “electronic brain”)

Pellet Fuel
Instead of 3.5 tons of wood, 1 ton pellet meets the need for warming. A house with a basic heating system of pellet consumes between 2-3 tonnes of pellet per year.

It’s cheaper than electrical and gas systems. Another important criterion is that the sulfur content is below 0.05 ppm.

The heating capacity of the pellet stoves is between 8,000 and 90,000 BTU. It is very suitable for houses, apartments or flats. The price of a pellet stove is between $ 1,300 + VAT (with air blow) and $ 1,650 + VAT (with water). The installation is cheaper than wood-fueled heaters. Many take direct air. Very expensive chimneys and ducts are not needed.
The fuel reservoirs can receive 16 to 60 kilograms of fuel, which is the capacity to meet the need during the day, even for longer periods. During the running time, except for the sight glass, the outer casing is not hot. So that, it is safe against accidents.

There is a need for electricity to operate the fans, control unit and pellet feeder. Under normal conditions, electricity consumption is about 100 kilowatts (kW) or of 27 TL per month.

Thanks to new technologies, the yield of pellet burning systems has reached 90%. But coagulation technology has also been applied to pellet burning systems, which has resulted in efficiencies exceeding 90%.

Application area:

♦ 2 buildings and buildings are used as a dormitories.
♦ Usage Area: 1500 m2 (~ 13 flats) and 2000 m2 (~ 17 flats)
♦ The application address and relevant person is at the bottom.

Pre-Application Expense

♦ The amount of coal burned in a winter season before pellet use is approximately 42 tons / winter season X 700 TL / Ton = 29.400 TL

Post-Application Expense

♦ The pellet is burned in two winter periods. The amount of pellets burned in a period is about 55 tons / season X 300 = 16.500 TL

Confirmation of the figures and result:

♦ The savings obtained is 12,900 TL.
♦ No environmental pollution.
♦ No need for chimney cleaning.
♦ No need for concierge.
♦ The amount of waste (ash) is 1%.
♦ Before starting to burn the pellet, the expenditure is about 24,000 TL (2 concierge salaries for 6 months)
♦ As a result, the profitability obtained in one season is 36.900 TL. (Total cost for two buildings)

Note: A one-time conversion (revision) price of 7,000 TL is required to bring a building system to coal pellet burning position (this is a total of 14.000 TL for 2 buildings)
